Extending your coffee table

If you've seen recent pictures of our living room, you may have noticed that our coffee table is a little small for the new layout. I knew the $10 ottoman I picked up at a thrift store ages ago would be the perfect coffee table extender - it just needed a new slipcover. Luckily I had lots of fabric leftover from my DIY chair slipcover, so last week I broke out my sewing machine and whipped up this guy.

A couple of books add some colour to an otherwise plain piece and I like how it does double-duty as a footstool or a surface to rest your snack/drink/whatever.

Now if I could just find the perfect area rug...

  1. Nicely done! I like the shape of the ottoman! It's coming along in there.

  2. I know how you feel about finding *the one* when it comes to area rugs-- I'm on the hunt myself right now. I just saw that Dash and Albert have a few on sale so you should check them out. Great job on the ottoman too! PS...where's that black side table from?

  6. What a pretty and airy space! Area rug... rugsUSA is not shipping free to Canada! I wonder what the duty would be :S

  7. I was snooping around on there last night! I ordered my coffee table and lamp from cb2.com and I don't remember the duty being too bad - sadly it still worked out to be much cheaper than buying something similar in Halifax!

  8. Thanks! My sewing skills are still a work in progress - I still remember back in junior high when my home ec. teacher used to take my sewing projects home and work on them because I was so terrible at sewing, so there's hope for anyone!

Perfect idea! We're considering a similar coffee table for our family room. How do you like it?

  13. Choosing a coffee table will depend on your needs and the style of coffee table that you want for your home. Many people prefer these coffee tables available on the market with different options such as drawers in the side of the table for storage and lift top tables that have storage inside of the table.
