I was inspired by both of these seriously gorgeous nurseries and I want to create a similarly bright, cheery, simple and fun design for my room.

1 - I made these curtains a couple years ago (using Sandi Henderson's Spring Petal Party fabric) and I'd love to use them in the nursery. The only problem is that they're a wee bit short if I want to hang them a few inches from the ceiling (I do). I'm thinking about adding solid green panels to the bottom, but I may end up making entirely new curtains from a different green fabric.
2 - It's a small room and I definitely want to incorporate some open shelving for storage. I'd also like to bring in some texture with baskets for hidden storage.
3 - My DIY bunting flag art will definitely be incorporated into the room. Right now I'm thinking about hanging them over the crib.
4 - We purchased a crib and mattress a while ago and now I'm researching a safe way to paint the crib a bright aqua or tiffany blue.
5 - I also already purchased this Serena & Lily crib sheet when it was on sale a while back. I love the reddish-orange colour and pattern, and I think it will look great against the aqua crib.
6 - This is the RENS Sheepskin from Ikea, but I'd like to get the real thing from the Lismore Sheep Farm here in Nova Scotia (as vegetarians, Adam and I are still struggling with whether this is a purchase we feel comfortable making or not, so a trip to the farm is probably in order before we make our decision).
7 - I wish I could say I'll be getting the real thing, but there's absolutely no way I could convince Adam to drop that kind of money on a chair. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for an afforable reproduction that ships to Canada.
8 - I know I'm behind the trend on the stick-on wall art, but I've always wanted to try it and a nursery seemed like the perfect place. I bought the Animals Alphabet a few weeks ago and I like that it's cute and colourful without being too over-the-top.
9 - I also bought this Giraffes print on etsy. The colours are perfect for the room and I've been weirdly obsessed with giraffes lately...
10 - I couldn't find a picture of Chapters' yellow Giraffe bookend (which I already bought), so I included the lion. Consider this a public declaration that I won't purchase any other giraffe-related items for the room :)
11 - A hand-me-down dresser from Adam's parents that I painted pistachio green and definitely want to use in the room. It's too high to double as a changing table, so I'm still trying to decide whether to buy a changing table, try building one into the closet or forgo one altogether. Any advice?

Great inspiration shots!! I never had a change table...lived without. But my sister swears by it. I would try to find a dresser (e.g. Hemnes ikea) that you can use as a table...
ReplyDeleteLove all your choices! As for the changing table, how about a dresser that would fit into your closet?
ReplyDeleteIf the paint I used on my bedroom walls is safe, I have lots left for you to paint the crib, unless you're spraying it. I think a changing table is essential both for your back's sake and for handily storing all the diapering needs. Let me know what I can do to help, although I know you are so independent......I'd love to be involved. Also, we need to choose the colours for the blanket I'm going to knit.
ReplyDeleteI never used a changing table for any of my three kids. I stashed changing goods upstairs and down so when I needed to change, I just tossed down an easy to wash flannel blanket and changed them on the spot. It was pretty convenient for us!
ReplyDeleteI'm also looking into painting our crib. I have a friend in the cabinet business that swears that professionally sprayed lacquer is the only way to go. Durable and no drips.
Everything Is do sweet! Have you seem the giraffe heads at west elm? Adorable?
ReplyDeleteSo jealous! We still don't have a nursery, and our baby is 8 months old! These reno's take forever, don't you think? Love all your ideas, I think giraffe's are cute...I'm on a elephant kick with our little guy! Can't wait to see it come together! Also, obviously we didn't have a change table, but found I didn't need it as it seemed like we changed him wherever we were when it needed to be done...on the bed, the couch, the floor....You change them soo often, that it's a pain to run to a change table each time.
ReplyDeleteI've heard this from a few people, so I've been keeping it in the back of my mind. Oh - and I'm loving elephants too haha!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a dresser that can double as a changing table, so definitely something to look into. Though I'm thinking more and more about living without one and having some kind of portable changing station...
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately the closet is pretty oddly shaped, so it likely won't fit a dresser, but we were thinking about building shelves so we could store baskets for closed storage - kind of a similar idea, but just something that works with our odd little closet :)
ReplyDeleteHmm...still thinking about those blanket colours and I'll definitely need lots of help putting everything together!
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of friends who had babies recently taking the same approach and they both said they rarely use the change table in the nursery. I'm leaning towards some kind of portable set-up and storing necessities upstairs and down is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteLove the board you've got! On the rocking chair, I believe Walmart had a version at one time that was a pretty spot on dupe. Also, if you are looking for any other art, http://www.etsy.com/shop/shopampersand has some ready stuff for a nursery.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth @ The Little Black Door
I love the idea of the brightly painted crib, so fun!!
ReplyDeleteI love the board! Your nursery is going to me gorgeous! I love that chair, I really hope you find a more affordable one!
ReplyDeleteWow this is a great look! I LOVE that rocking chair - it's a must! :) Even if it's not the real thing. I also love the idea of a sheepskin in a baby's room. Great job - can't wait to see the end result!

I have never used my change table...I usually always change them on the floor....But maybe that's just me, but I'm 3 bums in now and i don't think I've ever used it! I would just go with the dresser you've painted pistachio green, how great is that?! Found your blog through Emily and love what you are doing!
ReplyDeleteIn love with the aqua crib, definitely rocks my socks off. Will be a gorgeous nursery, can't wait to see the progress!
ReplyDeleteHi! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any issues with hackers?
ReplyDeleteMy last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing a few months
of hard work due to no data backup. Do you have any methods to protect against
hackers?
